RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHCThe Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).Position summaryUnder the direct supervision of the laboratory supervisor of the Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM) Technical Platform, the incumbent is responsible for collecting and processing human specimens such as, but not limited to, blood and urine, and processing the samples in compliance with standard operating procedures, client guidelines, and professional order guidelines.The incumbent must follow the clinical research procedures and must ensure that the test center and the specimen processing laboratory are compliant with Health Canada, Good Clinical Practice, as well as Health and Safety guidelines.General Duties • Collect specimens on adult and pediatric patients according to the established standard techniques and current policies,• Ensure the completion of test requisitions and that all specimens have the appropriate requisition,• Perform specimen processing such as centrifugation, aliquoting, buffy coats, and other laboratory techniques according to specifications of procedures of the clinical trials,• Perform various analytical examinations or technical work on biological specimens to assist in medical diagnosis or research purposes, Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to the established methodology specified in the lab manual and protocol of individual clinical trials, • Perform storage of specimens for different studies in freezers and fridges,• Prepare and package specimens to be sent to other facilities for analysis, • Ensure that every specimen is correctly identified by means of addressograph generation, manual labels and/or computerized bar code labels,• Review study laboratory related documents, Record information according to study requirements, Maintain records and files,• Perform quality control of laboratory equipment,• Respect the dress code inside the laboratory and in the test center, • Maintain the test center and the specimen processing lab clean and free of undue risk, ensuring a safe working environment,• Order and stock with the necessary supplies,• Manage the patient’s phlebotomy appointment calendar in iLab,• Maintain all necessary training in order to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing,• Perform other related work as requested by the Laboratory Supervisor and Technical Platforms Manager.

• Must be an active member of the Ordre professionnel des technologistes médicaux du Québec (OPTMQ) or the Ordre professionnel des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec , • IATA certifications are an asset, • Familiarity with computers,• Self-directed and organized, Able to work both independently and as part of a team, • Excellent interpersonal skills, • Excellent reading skills in English, good verbal and written communication skills in French and English.
