Job Description

RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
Under the general supervision of the Child Health and Human Development (CHHD) Program Manager, the incumbent provides technical support to researchers in the program and their students. They will play an important role within the program by managing the coordination of equipment maintenance, equipment training, logistic management of material, compliance to environmental health and safety rules, while performing administrative tasks related to the operation of the program. The incumbent will be a liaison between the members of the program and the research institute (IT, infrastructure, biomedical engineering, etc.).

General Duties
• Supervise the use of Program equipment including but not limited to those in our histology, microscopy, imaging and tissue culture rooms,
• Insure proper use of equipment,
• Establish a good working relationship with technical services at the RI-MUHC to coordinate repair of equipment,
• Put in the necessary orders to maintain and support common equipment,
• Liaise with IT and provide support regarding hardware/software/networking problems within laboratories,
• Take part in updating communication tools such as the CHHD website, social networking and others,
• Ensure follow-up on any communication with technical services, housekeeping, environmental health and safety, and security when needed
• Work with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure compliance,
• Coordinate dry ice and liquid nitrogen orders on an ad hoc basis,
• Arrange the physical reorganization of equipment, content, or furniture when needed,
• Support laboratories in shipping and receiving logistics,
• Organize onboarding sessions for new staff/trainee in the program,
• Inform the program manager or leadership of any unusual issues or problems requiring the program budget o be applied,
• Participate in the administrative projects from the program manager on an ad hoc basis.

Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Biological Sciences
Other education considered an asset for this position:
Work Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience or Master’s degree is an asset

Required Skills

• Excellent French and English skills, spoken and written,
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision,
• Scientific research environment or scientific background experience and knowledge of technical equipment is an asset.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time
Pay Scale: $40,531 to $51,200 Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie - Hybrid, 3-4 days on site
