RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
Under the general supervision of the Manager of the Technical Platforms of the Center for Innovative Medicine (CIM) the technologist specialized in clinical research ultrasound is responsible for performing echocardiographic imaging examinations including transesophageal echocardiography, exercise echocardiography, and studies with ultrasound contrast, receive and prepare patients, ensure that the examination data are recorded in the radiology information system (SIR), in the PACS echocardiography system (Syngo Dynamic) and in the iLab system for different protocols of adult clinical research.


General Duties
• Receives patients and enrolls them,
• Selects, prepares and explains exams to patients,
• Performs technical examinations related to cardiology and echocardiography according to established protocols such as:
o Doppler echocardiography study
o Transesophageal echocardiography
o Echocardiography with effort
o Echocardiography with dobutamine
o Echocardiography with contrast and / or saline
o Echocardiography at the bedside of patients
• Inserts intravenous catheters, when needed,
• Injects contrast media and prepares and administers contrast and saline products,
• Inscribes and inserts the necessary information in the (SIR) according to the procedures of the examinations (for example during the transesophagists, studies with contrast, etc.)
• Takes the blood pressure as needed,
• Prepares the work environment, equipment and medication when required,
• Ensures that statistical data is updated and entered correctly in the system,
• Assists the manager in prioritizing research participants for review and resolving conflicting priorities as requested,
• Ensures the proper functioning and cleanliness of the CIM medical equipment,
• Report dysfunctional equipment and maintenance issues to the Manager and the Research Biomedical Engineer,
• Assists in other settings only when research echocardiography examinations are completed,
• Monitors the inventory of supplies and place orders,
• Completes the source documentation for researchers according to ICH / GCP,
• Transmits anonymized images to the central laboratory (sponsor) by uploading the images to the different web portals and when necessary, make a copy of the exam on a DVD,
• Answer the questions of the core lab via the different web portals,
• Helps maintain a clean and orderly work ,
• Complies with infection control practices to prevent the transmission of disease,
• Follows established policies, procedures and protocols to ensure and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors,
• Perform other related tasks asked by the manager.

Education / Experience

EDUCATION:
DEC + Must be registered with the Order of Technologists in Medical Imaging, Radio-Oncology and Medical Electrophysiology of Quebec (OTIMROEPMQ), hold an autonomous practice certificate issued by the OTIMROEPMQ and must meet the requirements of the Professional Standard in Ultrasound of OTIMROEPMQ

EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 1 year of experience,
• Not having stopped practicing cardiac echocardiography for more than 1 year.

Required Skills

• Bilingual (good written and verbal communication skills in French and English),
• Autonomy, excellent work organization,
• Experience in clinical research would be an asset,
• Excellent interpersonal skills,
• Can work with a minimum of supervision.

Additional information

Status : Part-time occasional (on call)
Pay Scale: $23,80 to $44,19 commensurate to qualifications and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday, evening and weekend on occasion
Work Site: Glen Site (1001 Décarie) and Montreal General Hospital (1650 av. Cedar)
